Pre-Employment Test Prep
Choose the Right Preparation for You
Depending on the job you apply for, you may be asked to complete an employment test or assessment. To help you succeed, we offer a variety of tools and ways to practice. The type of practice depends on the role you applied for.
EEI Test Preparation
We offer a variety of tools developed in partnership with Edison Electric Institute (EEI), including test tips and practice tests. Additionally, you can use an interactive resource called Skillbuilders to get a realistic view of the work performed in electric energy jobs.
Example Roles: Plant Technician, Dispatcher, Equipment Operator, Instrument and Controls Technician
HireVue Assessment Preparation
This pre-employment assessment evaluates how well a person is likely to perform in a particular job. It lets us get to know you better and provides all applicants a consistent experience.
Example Roles: Lineworker, Meter Servicer, Building Maintenance Technician
How It Works
After you apply for a job that requires an assessment, you will receive an email invitation with a link to the assessment that expires 72 hours after it is sent. You need to complete the assessment within that period. You will not be able to access it after it has expired, and if you haven’t finished, you won't be considered for the position.
After you submit your assessment, our talent acquisition team will reach out regarding next steps. You can also visit your Workday candidate profile for status updates.

Test Taking Tips
- Practice: Take practice tests on topics like reading comprehension, math, and problem-solving under timed conditions. Resources can be found at local libraries, bookstores, and online.
- Stay Confident: View the test as an opportunity to showcase your skills and abilities.
- Rest Well: Get sufficient sleep the night before to ensure you're alert and at your best.
- Eat Beforehand: Have a nutritious meal before the test to fuel your brain.
- Manage Nerves: Feeling nervous is normal; it can even motivate you to perform well.
- Read Carefully: Take time to understand each question before answering.
- Eliminate Wrong Answers: If unsure, rule out incorrect options and make your best guess from the remaining choices.
- Focus on Each Section: Treat different parts of the test as separate challenges. Don’t dwell on previous sections; maintain a positive mindset for the next.
- Explore Resources: Look for books that improve reading, math, and mechanical comprehension at libraries, bookstores, or online. Adult education programs may also offer relevant courses.
- Math Preparation: Basic math books covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division can be helpful. Practice problems from elementary algebra books for foundational skills.
- Mechanical Concepts: Look for books on everyday mechanical principles (e.g., gravity, levers, gears) and consider courses in mechanics or physics for deeper understanding.
