Caring For Our Communities
Giving back to our communities is foundational to AEP's vision of powering a brighter future. We aim to support and play an active, positive role in the communities where we live and work.
We have been lighting the way for families to grow and businesses to prosper in communities across Appalachia, the Midwest and the Southwest for over a hundred years. We strengthen that legacy of service by supporting education and our community's most basic needs: food and housing.
We invest millions yearly to care for our communities and promote and protect our environment while also supporting initiatives to advance social justice. We are enriching lives, connecting with community partners, making our families healthier, our economies stronger and the future brighter for those we serve.
Our employees are committed to showing up all year long. They are passionate about helping AEP establish a visible presence in our communities by rolling up their sleeves to help build affordable, energy-efficient homes, participating in local cultural parades, coaching youth sports teams and tutoring students in math, science and reading.
In the summer of 2023, we launched our Volunteer 25 by 25 campaign, which is an effort to have at least 25% of AEP employees volunteer and record their activities in the Caring Together Portal by 2025.

A group of AEP volunteers helped vulnerable homeowners during Modcon Living's recent Rebuilding a Healthy Neighborhood event.
Feeding Communities
Appalachian Power employees and family members volunteered at the Roanoke Rescue Mission. They prepared food, served meals, cleaned the dining room and carried trays for guests. The Rescue Mission provides free clinic services, shelter, a food pantry and recovery programs. It serves over 600 meals a day and needs more help. The volunteers were happy to serve their community and make a positive impact.
Education
AEP Texas employees celebrated National Read Across America Day. They read books to kids at Menger Elementary in Corpus Christi. The event was organized by the United Way of the Coastal Bend to encourage reading in children.
Volunteering
Victor Manuel Gonzalez, the son of AEP Texas Line Mechanic Victor Gonzalez, organized a dog food drive to benefit the Harlingen Humane Society and Donja's Dogs. Victor Manuel's love for community service runs in the family - his dad is well-known for his good deeds, like donating 30 Thanksgiving dinners to families in need.
