Tree Farms

American Electric Power's environmental stewardship has been recognized in the certification of company forests by the American Tree Farm System (ATFS). ATFS certification is now internationally-recognized and meets strict third-party verification and auditing standards. ATFS-certified family forests meet eight standards of sustainability and are managed for multiple purposes: water, wildlife, wood and recreation. See the certification for our Muskingum Mine Site Tree Farm.

American Electric Power has Tree Farms in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Texas, covering more than 100,000 acres. In 2000, AEP was recognized by Tree Farm as the Ohio tree farm of the year, and the company has been involved in forest management since 1944. To date there have been more than 63 million trees planted on company property.
