Senior Vice President and Treasurer
Matt Fransen is senior vice president and treasurer.
He is responsible for all elements of the finance and treasury function, including working with banking institutions, investors, and rating agencies to support AEP’s capital market needs; cash flow management and forecasting; development of capitalization strategy and monitoring of key credit metrics; and management of AEP’s trusts and investments.
He also leads the management of various corporate risk departments including credit, market and insurance.
Previously, Fransen was vice president of New Generation Resource Development for Grid Solutions where he worked with the Grid Solutions team and AEP Utilities to meet the company’s targets under the Future Forward strategy.
From 2016 to mid-2021, he was managing director and then vice president of Renewable Development and Investments for AEP Renewables, where he was responsible for the core business operations of large scale wind and solar generation projects in the U.S. He held leadership oversight responsibility for development, acquisitions, asset and operations management and direct support departments.
From 2010 to 2016, he served as a director and then managing director in Strategic Initiatives, supporting corporate strategy development and the evaluation of mergers and acquisitions. Fransen was also a manager in the Treasury organization responsible for the capitalization of AEP’s subsidiary companies, credit rating agency activities and developing strong relationships within the capital markets.
Fransen has testified as an expert witness on the market valuation of power plants, cost of capital and capital structure before various state regulatory commissions.
Before joining AEP in 2002, Fransen was employed by Bank One Corporation as member of the Management Planning and Reporting department and the Private Client Services finance group.
Fransen earned both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in business administration from Ohio State University. Fransen also completed the AEP Targeted Development Program.
