Long before site selection became an industry, AEP wrote the book on how to do it. “How to Find a Plant Site Without Losing Your Mind” came out in the 1960s. The guide formalized what we'd done behind the scenes for more than a century: work alongside our customers and state and local partners to attract and retain jobs and capital investment in our communities.

The guide is a popular draw on AEPED.com, which is debuting a new look for 2020. The result of a yearlong effort, the website is a vital part of attracting businesses to our 11 state region, as studies show that 90 percent of site decisions are researched online ahead of making personal contact.

“Our website is an important marketing tool and resource for companies evaluating our service area," said Amy Koscielak, economic and business development research and operations manager.

AEP's Economic Development team does more than ensure energy solutions are in place for a company's new location.

“Today, we remain true to the guide’s approach. We put customers’ needs first. Often, in corporate site selection, their needs go beyond energy,” said Mark James, vice president of sales, economic and business development. “Our services to help companies locate, stay and grow in the AEP footprint are comprehensive, complimentary and confidential. We have more certified economic developers than any other energy company, and that expertise adds real value to our customers and communities.”

The redesign comes on the heels of a banner year in economic development. The team worked 155 projects that helped our communities create and retain over 21,000 jobs and billions in capital investment across our service territories.

“Our economic development program boosts jobs and growth, which benefits AEP and our communities, and reinforces our role as a vital community resource,” James said.
