A recent career fair at Nashville High School in Arkansas highlighted diverse career opportunities within the electric utility industry. Southwestern Electric Power Company explained the skills and education required for a broad range of roles, from power plant operations to distribution fieldwork.

Indiana Michigan Power and the AEP Foundation help provide Elkhart Community Schools with tools for success. That includes supporting a free classroom supply storefront for teachers and the Spark Program, which connects students with local businesses to engage in career exploration.
AEP Texas recently attended the career fair at IDEA Public School in Brownsville, Texas, where hundreds of students of all ages stopped by to learn about careers in the energy industry.
In West Virginia, Appalachian Power employees are mentoring enterprising students from Nitro High School who invented a safety device for linemen. The students designed a fall arrest tool, and they plan to present their prototype this June at MIT.
In March, AEP Ohio participated in the 9th Annual Central Ohio STEM Expo, organized by the American Society of Civil Engineers. More than 350 students experienced hands-on exhibits about electrical safety, robotics, bugs and more, all designed to inspire the pursuit of careers in engineering, technical trades and finance.
High school girls recently took their first steps toward becoming tomorrow’s leaders at the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology - Okmulgee’s Women in Industry event. Public Service Company of Oklahoma and other potential future employers helped introduce the students to a wide range of STEM degree programs and careers.
